When Nalda Became Punk started as the solo project of Elena Sestelo (Vigo, Spain).
In 2006 she gathered some songs, and released “Tiny noises make tiny music” her
first demo, though at the time the name of the project was just Nalda.
After a long break, she started recording songs again during summer of
2010 when she finished her second demo “Time to meet your family” which was her
first release using the name of When Nalda became punk. They also released a
free digital single for Bubbletone Records, still available for
download at the label's site.
Later on, in 2011 Roberto Cibeira joined the band and they began the
recording of their first 7” single for Pebble Records released on
August. The self titled single included two songs, exclusive to this single,
“When Nalda Became Punk” and “DIY”.
During 2012 the band played several shows, including Madrid Popfest and
recorded their debut album, “A farewell to youth”. As the previous single, it
was produced and recorded by Eva Guilala and Ivan Juniper from the Spanish band
Linda Guilala at their Kaiju Studios (Vigo, Spain) and was mixed and produced
by Ian Catt (producer of Saint Ettiene, the Field Mice, the School, Nosoträsh,
the Proctors, etc). The album was released by Shelflife Records at the beginning
of 2013.
Also in 2013, Antonio Llarena joined the band, completing the actual
formation of WNBP, and they played several shows, including Indietracks
Festival 2013 in the United
Kingdom.
At the beginning of 2014, the band will release
their new "Indiepop or Whatever! E.P." in a 7" vinyl for
Shelflife Records, including four new tracks, produced and recorded by Bruno Murmura.
When Nalda became

empezó como el proyecto en solitario de Elena Sestelo (Vigo). En 2006 juntó
algunas canciones y publicó “Tiny noises
make tiny music”, su primera maqueta, aunque por aquel entonces el nombre
del proyecto era simplemente Nalda. Poco después participó, junto a otros
grupos gallegos, en un recopilatorio homenaje al cantautor Andrés Dobarro (Manifesto Dobarrista, Falcatruada,
2007) para el que versionó “As
namoradiñas”.
Tras una larga pausa, durante el verano de 2010, volvió a grabar nuevas canciones publicando su segunda maqueta “Time to meet your family”, esta vez ya bajo el nombre de When Nalda became punk. Además publicó también un single digital gratuito en Bubbletone Records en noviembre de ese mismo año, todavía disponible en la web del sello.
Más tarde, ya en 2011 se unió al grupo Roberto Cibeira y empezaron a grabar su primer single en vinilo de 7” para el sello británico Pebble Records, publicado en el mes de agosto, incluyendo la canción que da nombre al grupo, “When Nalda became punk”, y como cara b “DIY”. Durante el año 2012 WNBP hizo conciertos por toda Galicia y también actuó en el festival de indie pop Madrid Popfest 2012.
El 5 de febrero de
2013 When Nalda became punk publicó
su disco de debut, titulado "A farewell to youth" en el
sello norteamericano Shelflife Records. El disco fue grabado y producido por Iván
Juniper y Eva Guilala en Kaiju Estudio, en Vigo, y producido y mezclado en
Londres por Ian Catt, productor de the Field Mice, Saint Etienne, Nosoträsh,
Dylan Mondegreen o the Proctors, entre otros grupos. A farewell to youth reúne
diez canciones de puro indie pop que no pierden el espíritu lo-fi de sus

En el año 2013 se
unió a la banda Antonio Llarena, completando la formación actual. Entre los
conciertos de presentación del disco destaca la actuación en el Indietracks Festival 2013 que se
celebró en julio en Ripley (Reino Unido).
A principios de
2014 se publicará el nuevo trabajo del grupo “Indiepop or whatever!”, un EP en vinilo de 7” con cuatro
canciones, de nuevo para el sello norteamericano Shelflife Records. Este EP ha
sido grabado, producido y mezclado en Vigo por Bruno Murmura.
